The Infamous Masterson’s , situated in the center of Moonee Ponds , markets itself as a trendy “hipster” hangout , but my unfortunate encounter at this establishment became a nightmarish ordeal . While the bar may present a friendly façade, what I discovered behind its threshold was disturbing and far below any standard .

The State of Affairs: Filthy and Neglected
From the moment I walked in , it was evident that cleanliness was not a priority at this establishment . The ground was covered in grime , and a pungent odor of decaying beverages and filthy restrooms suffused the entire bar . Reeking of a mixture of human waste, old age and sickness . The counter , which should be the main attraction of any pub, was piled high with used mugs and refuse that looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks . The toilet was in even more deplorable shape — backed up, with a snapped lever and surfaces marked in what I can only assume was human waste .

It wasn’t just a rare instance either. Based on the experiences shared online and conversing with residents , it seems that the level of hygiene (or lack thereof) at this pub is a long-standing issue . Many customers have reported seeing bugs darting across the drink station and evidence of rodent infestations in the bar and house area . Pete’s wife, the co-owner, is a co-manager and frequently seen managing operations mastersons bar . Instead of stepping in to mitigate the damage done by her husband’s actions, she seems to accept his behavior.
